FAQ's

Are telehealth appointments available 24/7?

Yes. You can request a telehealth appointment at any time, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays. Doctors are available 24/7.

Do I need a Medicare card for a telehealth appointment?

A Medicare card is required for identity verification and to issue an electronic prescription (eScript). If you don’t have a Medicare card, that’s okay - you’ll be asked to upload a valid form of photo ID instead, and a paper prescription will be sent directly to your nominated pharmacy.

What happens during an online consultation?

During your telehealth consultation, the doctor will discuss your condition in the same way they would in a physical clinic visit. They’ll ask about your symptoms, medical history, and current medications to determine the most appropriate treatment plan. If a prescription is required, it will be issued as an eScript (Medicare card holders) or sent directly to your nominated pharmacy (non-Medicare).

Can the doctor prescribe medication during the consult?

Yes, if clinically appropriate. Prescriptions are issued at the doctor’s discretion and may be sent as an eScript (Medicare card holders) or directly to your nominated pharmacy (non-Medicare).

Can I get a medical certificate during a telehealth appointment?

Yes, if clinically appropriate. Your doctor may issue a single-day or multi-day medical certificate where appropriate.

How long does a telehealth consult usually take?

Most consultations take only a few minutes, depending on your concerns.

Is the consultation private and secure?

Yes. All telehealth consultations comply with Australian privacy and confidentiality standards.

What if I need to be seen in person?

If a physical examination is required, the doctor will advise you on next steps and may provide a referral or letter to support in-person follow-up.

What medicines can’t be prescribed?

The prescribing of all medications is at the doctor’s discretion. Some medications cannot be prescribed via telehealth due to regulatory and clinical restrictions. These include certain controlled and monitored medicines.

Can I get a Medicare rebate?

Telehealth appointments are privately billed, with payment required at the time of consultation. Medicare rebates do not apply.

How long will I wait for my appointment?

Appointment times may vary depending on clinical demand. You’ll be notified by SMS when a doctor is ready to review your request.

How should I prepare for my consultation?

Please ensure you have reliable phone and internet reception and are in a private, quiet location for your consultation.

I'm visiting Australia, can I still speak to a doctor?

Yes. You can have a consultation as usual. If a prescription is issued and you don’t have a Medicare card, it will be sent directly to your nominated pharmacy instead of as an eScript, so they can dispense it straight away.

How do I access my documents, referrals, or medical certificates?

If any documents are issued during your consultation, you can access them by logging into your secure patient portal. You’ll receive instructions on how to log in after your consultation.
